We finished first part of conservation actions

At the end of the winter season, the conservation actions in the form of a one-time mowing and removal of undergrowths of trees and shrubs  finished.

Activities in this season covered several objects including, among others, Augustów Primeval Forest, newly established nature reserves of Kruszynek and Mechowiska Sulęczyńskie and also the Wielkopolska Dolina Rurzycy Nature Reserve, Smolary and the Manowo Nature Reserve which is currently designed. The surface of performed activities in the 2014/2015 season covered 46.6 ha of mowed area and 40.4 ha of area from which undergrowths of trees and shrubs were removed.

The activities were performed manually using brushcutters, saws and axes, since the entry of any equipment is impossible, due to the conditions on the peatlands. The biomass from mowing and cutting was manually removed from the peatlands and stored on the edge of the area. Detailed documentation of the area that underwent the activities this season is being compiled for proper management of the 7230 habitat. It will include information which will allow for participation in the ”agricultural, climatic and environmental program” and the use of the area in accordance with  the requirements. This will ensure the sustainability of the activities undertaken within the project.
