Be AWARE – international seminar on wetland restoration

Between 22 – 23.04.2013, the employees of the Club took part in the international workshop on issues related to the protection and restoration of wetlands – AWARE – Approaches in Wetland Restoration, which took place in Warsaw on the campus of the University of Warsaw. During the meeting, peatland protection issues were discussed from different perspectives – hydrological, ecological, conservation of species, practical protection, economic and policy. During the workshop, the  Naturalist’s Club employee – prof. Lesław Wołejko delivered one of the readings. Its subject referred to the practice vs. scientific approach of alkaline fens protection. In his presentation, Professor referred to the previous Club’s inventory work towards heading to know the distribution and conservation status of habitat 7230 in Poland (more on the project page on the subject). He told also how the project AlkFens derived from these data and implements provisions developed in the “7230 Habitat Management Plan and associated endangered species”.

The meeting was also an opportunity for the presentation of the project in the form of a poster (downloadable HERE) and during the poster session, exchange of experience and knowledge of the individuals involved in the wetland restoration in other countries. More about the workshop can be found on the conference website: AWARE – Approaches in Wetland Restoration.
